White Summer Dresses
Summer 2012 is fast approaching and its time to be done with the winter blues and that frumpy winter wardrobe! While summertime is certainly the season for bright colours and bold prints, we still feel nothing says summer more than the classic white summer dress.
There seem so few opportunities to enjoy wearing this light natured colour so don’t let the easy breezy days of glorious summer be wasted away in a drab and dark wardrobe.
White dresses can be just as versatile as the LBD (little black dress) so at least one white dress in your closet will serve you well this sunny season. This colour also absorbs less heat than darker colours so keeping it white and light will keep you cool under those mid afternoon rays.
Many women fear wearing white for several reasons, most commonly the dread of getting caught showing unflattering bumps and bulges, especially if you haven’t yet had time to hit the gym and work off those extra winter pounds. You need not feel vulnerable ditching the dark coloured coverups, however, as a white dress can be most flattering on any shape or size. But how can you make the right choice and keep it cool and confident in white this summer?
Basically, just stick to the fashion rules you already know. Empire waist to add some curves, halter or spaghetti straps to draw eyes up and away from problem thighs and midsection, and a tea length dress for petite frames. Dressing appropriately for the occasion is also of fundamental importance. Generally speaking, bare and exposed shoulders in a halter, sleeveless or spaghetti strap style dress are not considered suitable for the workplace. Shoulders should be covered to keep it professional. A cute jacket or light sweater over your office dress can easily solve this problem while also preventing chills from spending the day in a cooler indoor environment.
Summer dresses are naturally figure flattering, as they tend to be form fitted on the upper half of the body while flowing free and loose over the lower body. Eyes are naturally drawn upward to your face and away from those winter pounds that have yet to be dropped at the gym. Hence, even a white dress when well chosen and well fitted in the right areas can look great on anyone this summer.
Evenings in summertime or a sudden temperature drop in an air-conditioned building can leave you chilled, so make sure to bring along a light jacket or cover up for your dinner out with friends or a romantic evening stroll. A white summer dress will also help you keep things fuss free from daywear to a night out. A few simple accessory changes can transform your outfit without breaking the bank. Try complimenting your look with bold coloured jewelry or a wrap. Switch sandals to heels for instant night time sophistication.
Whether you’re off to a garden party, a backyard barbeque, afternoon tea and shopping with friends or a night out with that special someone, a white dress is a must have staple to add to your closet, and a versatile friend for summer 2012!
